MI Floor Leader Bryan Posthumus says Trump Visit to Kent County is ‘A Very Necessary Reminder’ as nation grapples with Border Crisis
As former President Donald Trump prepares to speak in Grand Rapids with a focus on the crisis at the southern border, Republican Floor Leader Bryan Posthumus expressed the need for change when it comes to safe and secure immigration policies.
"The need for strong leadership and strong immigration policies has never been more clear," Posthumus said. "That's why I have called on Governor Whitmer to send our National Guard to help in Texas, co-sponsored legislation that bans ‘sanctuary’ cities in Michigan, and fought for increased spending on police and public safety. I'm glad to see the president return to Michigan for what I'm sure will be a very necessary reminder: laws protect the people. They must be enforced.”
When asked about President Biden's border policies, which have led to more than 6 million illegal border crossings into the U.S. since he took office, Posthumus said, "It is no wonder his approval ratings on the southern border are abysmal."
He continued, “Unfortunately, we have seen firsthand that even when our local authorities do everything right, tragedy can still strike when our borders fail due to weak leadership.”
Former President Donald Trump will be in Grand Rapids to speak on Tuesday at the DeVos Place Convention Center beginning at 2:30pm.
Posthumus said he hopes to hear President Trump lay out a plan that will lock down our border toward illegal immigrants while opening the door to those who chose to come here legally and proudly.
